Collaborative Law & Mediation

Out of Court and In Your Hands

Alternative Approaches to Divorce and Family Law

If you want an amicable divorce but the issues are too complex or too many to resolve without help, Raphael, Ramsden & Behers, P.C. can explore collaborative law or mediation as the solution.

Our lawyers are qualified to provide either of these as an alternative to adversarial negotiations or litigation. We represent men and women in the Pittsburgh metro area, Allegheny County and throughout Western Pennsylvania. Many of our clients are high net worth individuals with considerable estates, professional practices or closely held business interests, while others are of more moderate means. None of these issues is a barrier to an out-of-court resolution if both parties are open to working it out.

Call us today at 866-790-9784 to discuss collaborative law or mediation as a possibility in your divorce or custody case.

Collaborative Family Law

In collaborative divorce, each party is represented by an attorney trained in the collaborative law process. Their role is to offer both legal advice and guidance as you address issues related to the divorce process such as property division, custody or financial support.

Collaboration fosters an atmosphere of respect, compromise and communication to allow you to work through disputes yourselves, rather than turning to the court system for answers. The sessions may include utilizing financial planners, tax accountants and family counselors to help you examine all the ramifications of divorce.

The key to collaborative law is a written agreement to refrain from litigating. The collaborative process eliminates the legal maneuvering and withholding of information that can be common in litigation.

Collaborative law can be successful if you are fully committed to moving forward without court intervention. It avoids some of the cost, the length and the lasting bitterness of litigation, and it is almost entirely private.

Mediation

Mediation is similar to collaborative law as it provides an alternative solution to litigation. A neutral mediator can raise issues or suggest common ground and facilitate discussions as you work toward agreement. Mediating can be an effective and cost-efficient path to navigating a divorce.

Several attorneys at Raphael, Ramsden & Behers, P.C. are trained and experienced in divorce and family law mediation. We can serve as legal counsel to prepare clients for mediation by a third party, or we can serve in the mediator role.
