Carol A. Behers is a 1980 Magna Cum Laude graduate of Duquesne University. While attending Duquesne University, she was selected to membership in the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. Ms. Behers attended Duquesne University’s School of Law, and attained her Juris Doctor Degree from the University in 1983. She served as Associate Recent Decisions Editor for the Duquesne University Law Review and was selected to membership on the Law Review based upon academic merit.
Attorney Behers was admitted to practice before the State Courts in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in November 1983. She is currently a member in good standing of the Allegheny County and Pennsylvania Bar Associations, and is a member of the Family Law Section of both associations. Attorney Behers is a past Chair of the Family Law Section of the Allegheny County Bar Association; past Co-Chair of its Professionalism Committee; past Co-Chair of the Section’s Ad Hoc Rules Committee, as well as a member of its Nominating Committee. She was an elected member of the Judiciary Committee of the Allegheny County Bar Association. She is the Immediate Past Chair of the Pennsylvania Bar Association Family Law Section, and a current member of the Executive Committee.
Attorney Behers is a Fellow in the Allegheny County and Pennsylvania Bar Foundations. She is the Vice President and a Trustee of the Allegheny County Bar Foundation, and Co-Chair of its Fellows Committee. She was selected to the “Best Lawyers in America”, in the practice area of family law for the 2003-2010 editions. She was named as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer and one of the top 50 female lawyers in Pennsylvania by Philadelphia Magazine.
Ms. Behers has lectured and written on family law topics through the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, the continuing legal education arm of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. She co-authored three (3) publications for the Institute: Pennsylvania Family Law Citator; Premarital Agreements in Pennsylvania; and Pennsylvania Family Law Discovery Forms. She is currently serving on the Board of the Pennsylvania Bar Institute.
Ms. Behers served on a statewide task force for a Model Unified Family Court System in Pennsylvania. She is currently serving as the Chair of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s Domestic Relations Procedural Rules Committee.
Ms. Behers recently received training and certification in Collaborative Law, an approach to family law dispute resolution which provides an alternative to court litigation.
Ms. Behers has participated in volunteer service programs through the Catholic Charities. Ms. Behers has also volunteered in connection with various fund raising events sponsored by Duquesne University.
Attorney Behers joined the firm of Raphael, Ramsden & Behers, P.C. as an associate in December 1989. She became a principal in the firm in 1993.
